Sudden deafness as an initial presentation of varicella: case report and literature review

: Varicella, or chickenpox, is a highly contagious disease transmitted by the varicella zoster virus (VZV). Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL) has been defined as of at least 30 dB over three frequencies on audiogram within days and with an uncertain cause. Deafness caused varicella-zoster occasionally occurred in Ramsey hunter syndrome but associated chickenpox rare. We present case adult infection deafness first symptom. The patient begins his left ear developed fever 12 later skin rash 13 later. He was diagnosed received treatment oral famciclovir capsule 250 mg administrated times daily. After 2 weeks, outpatient follow-up reported that while scabs had fallen off he felt well, not improved. This kind cases are rare suggest relationship between VZV deafness.
